THE COMMANDING OFFICER'S TOAST
This was instituted by Lieutenant-Colonel Ettienne Visagie, and unlike the Omuthiya Special had a strict set of rules. It could only be drunk on special occasions, such as the anniversary of the Lomba battle; it could only be proposed by CO or one of his predecessors; it was to be drunk in black Sambuca to symbolise the regimental colour; and took precedence over all other toasts during functions and formal dinners. All members would rise, a shot-glass of Sambuca in one’s right hand. The CO or past CO would then raise his glass and utter the regimental motto, Mobilitate Vincere! Whereafter all the other members would raise their Sambuca, and respond with a ringing “Six-One!” and empty their glasses.
