Addressing Decades of Emotional Stress from the 1980s Border War and dealing with the 1990’s civil unrest
The legacy of military conflict extends far beyond the battlefield, echoing through the lives of those who served long after the guns fall silent. Few understand this enduring impact more acutely than the veterans of the 61 Mechanised Battalion Group, a renowned South African military unit that served with distinction during the tumultuous years of the Border War in the 1980s. For many of these veterans, particularly the nineteen-year-old conscripts thrust suddenly into the harsh realities of combat, the emotional wounds run deep, sometimes remaining unresolved for decades. Recognizing this profound challenge, the 61 Mechanised Battalion Group Veterans Association has implemented a holistic approach aimed at supporting its members as they seek to overcome emotional stress rooted in their military experiences. - 61 Patron, Kobus Smit
