In line of its mission to help and assists its members with coming to terms with the past and finding closure on the traumatic exposure to war and its consequences, the 61 Mech Veterans Association organised its first battle tour to Angola in 2009. The tour leader was Koos Moorcroft, a renowned Special Forces soldier, with vast experience with tours in Angola.

The tour members travelled in an Overlander with big windows, which was quickly named “Fish Bowl” or “Vistenk” in Afrikaans. In this confined space, which in an uncanny way resembled the close proximity and intimacy shared many years ago in a Ratel Infantry Combat Vehicle, the tour members shared some of their deepest thoughts and feelings never voiced before..
